Final Reflection

When I was thinking of what to create for my final project, I was really focusing on how I could “summarize my learning.” I wanted to show what I created because I have definitely come a long way, from business cards with barely matching background colors, to a full newsletter.
I thought an infographic would be the best way to show the progression of work, and it also gave me space to explain the pivotal points of this past semester in this class for me.

I think one of the important points I had in this class was learning to design for specific target audiences. This came into play when I was designing direct mailers because I had to focus on two different audiences, and really think about what they would be interested in receiving in the mail.

The biggest turning point for me was when Professor Croom commented on one of my assignments saying he understood my design style. I have a very simplistic and professional style. When I came into the class, I wanted to be creative and find brands I could add floral designs or a lot of colors to, but that was not something I ended up doing at all. And overall, I think this class really helped me because if I follow the career path I am working toward now, I will be in government relations and crisis communications and will have a much greater need for straightforward, professional work, as opposed to more creative designs.

That being said, I tried to step out of my comfort zone a little and make this infographic creative by mixing up layouts and balancing images and text.
Here is my final project this semester:

Finally, I uploaded a screencast explaining my project further to YouTube.
